Tobe Thompson is the founder of SmartMoving and a board member who set out to fix a problem most people had simply accepted: the software powering the moving industry was, frankly, terrible—and nobody had bothered to fix it.

He started his career in software, working his way from network engineer to CTO and helping lead a startup through acquisition by a large international company. After visiting a friend’s moving company and seeing the awful tools they were stuck with, it clicked: he could build something better.

In 2018, he decided to prove it. With a young family, no income for over a year, and plenty of uncertainty, Tobe went all in. He teamed up with a top engineer, showed up to a moving conference in Arizona with nothing but early designs and started talking to movers. What he heard was the same everywhere: people were frustrated, underserved, and patching together their own systems just to keep things running.

That insight shaped SmartMoving from day one. By listening first and building around real operators' needs, Tobe, alongside partner Louis Massaro, created a platform now used by thousands of moving companies. The mission was simple and ambitious: help moving company owners and their teams build better businesses and better lives.

Tobe lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife and two boys. When he’s not building or thinking about what’s next, he’s usually out exploring—chasing new places, new ideas, and experiences you won’t find on a typical itinerary.
